Style tips for timeless, natural, and vacation-ready portraits
One of the most common questions I get as a family photographer in Cabo San Lucas is:
“What should we wear for our beach photo session?”
The good news? You’re already in paradise—half the magic is in the light, the sand, and your connection as a family. But the right wardrobe can help you feel confident, comfortable, and photograph beautifully against Cabo’s golden beaches and turquoise sea.
Here’s a simple, stress-free guide to help you dress your crew with ease and style.
Families wearing neutral tones for their Cabo photo session.
Stick to natural tones
Beach light is bright and reflective—so soft, neutral colors always look amazing.
Think:
White, cream, taupe, beige
Soft blues, sage green, dusty rose
Muted pastels (especially for spring/summer vibes)
These tones complement the ocean and sand, and keep the focus on your family, not your clothes.
Avoid: Neon, harsh reds, or black (which can absorb light and feel heavy on the beach).
Coordinating outfits for Cabo family sessions.
Coordinate, Don't Match
Gone are the days of everyone wearing identical white shirts and jeans.
Instead, choose a color palette of 2–3 coordinating tones, and mix them up across the family.
For example:
Mom in a soft floral dress
Dad in a light blue button-down and khaki shorts
Kids in neutral cotton outfits or flowy fabrics in coordinating colors
This adds texture and interest, while still feeling cohesive.

Barefoot is Beautiful
Shoes are totally optional—and often better left out of beach portraits!
Bare feet feel natural, grounded, and perfectly suited to the Cabo vibe.
If you prefer shoes, choose:
Simple leather sandals
Neutral-toned flats or espadrilles
Tip: If one person needs to wear shoes, everyone should wear shoes.

Dress for the weather & comfort
Cabo is warm and sunny year-round. Choose breathable fabrics like cotton, linen, or muslin—especially for young kids.
Bring water, sunscreen, and maybe a change of clothes if you’re planning on getting wet!
Advice: If you're coming June-Oct this is Hurricane Season and can sometimes be wet and very humid. Be prepared to sweat!
Final Thoughts: Wear What Feels Like You
Above all, wear what makes you feel confident and relaxed.
Whether that’s a breezy dress, a beachy button-down, or your favorite jumpsuit—if you feel good, it will shine through in your photos.
Still unsure where to start? I always offer wardrobe guidance for my clients, and I love helping families choose colors and textures that feel true to their style. When in doubt, simple is best—and beachy always wins.
